El pasado 25 de febrero de 2021, Uruguay se convirtió en el 50º país adherido a la Declaración de la OCDE sobre Inversión Internacional y Empresas Multinacionales, lo cual se dio como resultado de sus impresionantes progresos en la aplicación de reformas a la política de inversión para mejorar el clima empresarial del país y fomentar la contribución positiva que la inversión puede hacer al progreso económico, ambiental y social.

Uruguay became the 50th adherent to the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises on 25 February 2021 in recognition of its impressive progress in pursuing investment policy reforms to improve the country's business climate and encourage the positive contribution investment can make to economic, environmental and social progress.

Today, Uruguay deposited its instrument of ratification for the Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) with the OECD’s Secretary-General, therewith underlining its strong commitment to prevent the abuse of tax treaties and BEPS by multinational enterprises. For Uruguay, the MLI enters into force on 1 June 2020.

The world economy has been weakening and, like other international organisations, we have revised downwards this year's macroeconomic forecasts. For 2019, the OECD expects global GDP growth of just 2.9%, six-tenths of a percentage point lower than in 2018 (3.5%).
