SXSW EDU: Oprah Winfrey with Dr. Bruce Perry

Bruce Perry is a child psychiatrist and neuroscientist, and he spoke with Oprah Winfrey during EDU's virtual event. The focus of their discussion was childhood trauma and how the neurological impacts of it affect people as they grow and develop. They spoke about this topic especially in the context of the pandemic and isolation for students from the typical classroom environment.

Dr. Perry is the Principal of the Neurosequential Network, Senior Fellow of The ChildTrauma Academy and a Professor (Adjunct) in the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago and the School of Allied Health, College of Science, Health and Engineering, La Trobe University, Melbourne, Victoria Australia. Over the last thirty years, Dr. Perry has been an active teacher, clinician and researcher in children’s mental health and the neurosciences holding a variety of academic positions. His work on the impact of abuse, neglect and trauma on the developing brain has impacted clinical practice, programs and policy across the world.
